　アマチュアの企画、運営によるフェスティヴァルに足を運ぶのは、モンタレー以来のことだったからね。1967年のモンタレーが、1969年のウッドストックの母体になったんだ。
　でもウッドストックは、とてもイーストコーストっぽいイヴェントだった。ウェストコーストの人間だと、「やあ、元気にしてる？」と声をかけあうところが、イーストコーストの人間だと、もちろんこっちもラヴとピースを信奉してはいるんだけど、「おい、どうしてんだよ？」みたいな物言いになる。（中略）イーストコーストではみんなが敵同士で、その日だけ休戦しているような感じだった。ウエストコーストだとみんな、「じゃあちょっとここに着陸してみよう」と言って、たまさか地上に降り立った天使みたいな感じだったのに。全然、感じが違っていた。
