アマンダはここに生きている

I'm only reading,more books.

あれからいろいろ忙しかったわけでもないのだが、それなりにいろいろ出来事やら、イベントやら、なんやらかんやら、und so weiter,and so on。元気になったり、なかったりの繰り返しで、悠々自適の老後生活なんてのは、自分には縁のないものらしい（老後とはいつからなのか定義は難しいようだが、自分はold ageであるという自覚は大事だ）。

 

本は読んでいる。この写真以外にもいろいろあるのだが、全部は覚えていない。
このところの一番のトピックといえばやはり古川日出男現代語訳の「平家物語」か。うーむ。
自分がそういうものを読むことになるとは想像もしていなかったが、読んでみた。それも途中から始めた。どうせ最後まで読めないだろうからと。でも、（確か第４章ぐらいから読み始めた）あっという間に最後まで読んで、最初に戻って、結局全部読んだ。

訳者の力量もあるだろう。原文のままではおそらく10ページも読めなかったのでは。
ある意味、日本の物語の一番元のところにあるテーマ、展開などが目白押しなわけで、「判官びいき」とか、「落人伝説」とか、歌舞伎や浄瑠璃の話になっていたりとか、そんなのが次から次へとテンポよく出てくるから、退屈しない。

だけど、まあ、なんといっても、いちばんは訳者の仕事かな。この現代語訳を古川にやらせようと決めた編集者と、それを受けた古川に拍手！　パチパチ。

あともうひとつのトピックは、デッドのボックスセットの到着。5/18。
Betty board 音源、初の正式リリース、ということになる。Betty board については以前に書いた（16年9月）。
"5/8/77、Barton Hall"の音源は、非公式ながら、デッドヘッズのあいだで200万本以上のコピーが作られたという伝説のショーである。その日のコンサートをあいだに挟んで、全部で4つのショーを収めたボックスセットである。15,000セットは即日予約完売で、今はおまけのついてないボックスが出ている。

おまけは Peter Conners の "Cornell '77" という本。
ちなみにうちに来たボックスのナンバーは「14291」。あぶなかったね。
音？　いうまでないでしょ。バランスは最高！　だけど難を言えば、ボーカルにエコーがかかりすぎ。完璧なものは世の中に存在しないのである。

Die Tanzerin

きっかけはドイツ語のラジオ講座で、森鷗外のドイツ留学時代を取り上げていたことだった。
それから鷗外の小説を日本語の現代語訳にしたものを読んでみた。「舞姫」や「うたかたの記」など。
「舞姫」に出てくるエリスには、モデルがいて、鷗外が日本へ戻った後を追って、日本へやってきた。それは「坊ちゃんの時代」という漫画で読んだ。エリスのモデルになった人については最近まで、謎だったらしい。
それをつきとめた六草いちかが書いた「エリスの真実」が図書館にあったので読んでみる。

鷗外は外国文学を日本にたくさん紹介したが、その量は村上春樹に匹敵する、というようなことを柴田元幸さんがどこかに書いていた（柴田さんの仕事量も半端じゃないけど）。
そうか、そういうひとだったのか。
「鷗外と漱石のあいだで/日本語の文学が生まれる場所」という黒川創の本も読んでみた。台湾や中国の近代文学の誕生に鷗外と漱石の果たした役割は大きい、というような話だ。

Elise Wiegertは1866年、現在はポーランド領の都市シュチェチン生まれで、鷗外と出会ったときは2０歳。
日本への旅費は誰が出したのか、日本滞在のひと月のあいだに何があったのか、帰りの旅費は誰が負担したのか、エリーゼは帰ってからどうしていたのか。
エリーゼさんは、ベルリンでふたつの戦争を生きのび、1953年に86歳で亡くなったということだ。

鷗外の娘は茉莉（まり）と杏奴（あんぬ）だが、どちらもエリーゼの親姉妹の名前だという。
「エリスの真実」の作者六草さんは、鷗外が「舞姫」に何を書いたのか、ではなく、なぜ書いたのか、に興味があったと書いている。なるほど、そういう読み方もあるのだ。

鷗外がベルリンでエリーゼと一緒に暮らしていた家があった地区は、戦後東ベルリンになった。日本人が壁の向こうへは簡単には行けなくなって、「真実」がなかなか見えてこなかったということもある。

ミルウォーキーの雪

先週 Garcia live の 最新シリーズ vol.8 をゲット。11/23/1991,Milwaukee,WI での Jerry Garcia Band live 2CD set だ。

Melvin Seals と David Kemper のいる最強JGB時代のもの。

音源はいまはもうストリーミングで聞けるので、CDをゲットする必要はなかったが、おまけのポスターに目を奪われ、おまけともどもゲット。ポスターは日本のB2をひとまわり小さくしたサイズで、シルク印刷したもの。限定500枚で、シリアルナンバー（版画の場合はなんて言うんだ？）385/500と入っている。作者Pete Schawのサイン入り。

30ドル（送料別）だから、そんなに高いものではない。紙の筒に丸めて入れて送られてきた。

91年11月のその日、ミルウォーキーには雪が降ったようで、ポスターは（CDのジャケットなどにはこのイラストはつかわれていない）、ミルウォーキーの街のなかを歩く Jerry の後姿を描く。

この日バンドはアンコールをやらなかった。リヴィング・ルームでのintimateな演奏に、アーティスト対観客の関係性をもちこみたくないからアンコールはいらないという、Jerry の考え方によるものらしい。

ミルウォーキーはドイツ系移民が多く、ビールや食品の工場が多い。ビルの上に漂う煙突の煙が奥行きのある不思議な空間へといざなう。

分厚い本その3

吉本隆明と松浦寿輝の本を借りる。
吉本の本は晶文社から出ている全集の第3巻、「1951-1954」である。全部で800ページ余、ほとんどすべて詩である。何篇くらいあるのか数えるのも大変そう。この時代、吉本は20代後半。東洋インキ製造という会社に勤めていた。すぐにやめたようだが。ここに収録されている詩のどれくらいが、当時公開されたのかよくわからないが、全集の基本方針として、吉本が書いたものをすべて年代順に収録する、というものなので、未発表のものも多数あるようだ。

読んでも詩の中身はよくわからない。だけど圧倒的な文字の量、言葉の海。すばらしい！
全集は全38巻の予定で、現在は12巻まで発行済。怒涛の全集。全巻そろったらどれくらいの長さかな。図書館に並べるスペースはあるのかな。

松浦寿輝の「名誉と恍惚」は800ページ弱の長編小説。残念ながらこの人の小説はまだ読んだことがない。
この前の舞城王太郎のときもそうだけど、いきなり長編からいくなよ、最新刊からいくなよ、という声もあるが、まあいいのだ。最新作がいつも最高傑作だ、という人もいる。楽しみだわい。

前にも書いたかもしれないけど、分厚い本が好き。なんといっても、その恐るべき言葉の量にまず平伏するのである。その長さと量に必然性はあるのか、編集者は納得しているのか、校正者はうんざりしてないか、印刷屋は放り出してないか、製本屋は腰を痛めてないか、そんなことお構いなしに、堂々とこの分厚さ。エライゾ！
さて枕にして昼寝するか。
